The remarkable quietness of an ESTIA heat pump

Noise under the microscope

In an age in which environmentally friendly and energy-efficient solutions are becoming increasingly important for heating and cooling buildings, heat pumps play a crucial role. The ESTIA heat pump, known for its efficiency and durability, impresses in particular thanks to its quietness.

The ESTIA heat pump is designed to generate as little operating noise as possible. This is particularly important in densely populated residential areas or in buildings where peace and quiet are top priority. The average noise level of the ESTIA heat pump is significantly below that of many conventional heating and cooling systems, making it an ideal choice for environments in which a low level of noise is important.

Sound pressure level dB(A)*

This graphic shows a sound pressure level scale in decibels (dB(A)). Decibels is a logarithmic unit which is used to indicate the relative volume perceived by the human ear. The sound pressure level is shown on the weighted A scale (dB(A)), which takes the human ear's sensitivity to noise at various frequencies into account.

At the upper end of the scale are noises which are so loud they may be painful – the so-called pain threshold – at around 140 dB(A). This is indicated with a firework symbol. Further examples of loud volumes are a jet aircraft at around 130 dB(A) and the noise of a chainsaw at around 110 dB(A).

Everyday noises, such as a car driving past at around 70 dB(A) and people talking at around 60 dB(A), are shown in the middle of the scale. These noises are generally not harmful to hearing.

At the bottom end of the scale are quiet noises, such as the ESTIA heat pump. A value of around 30 dB(A) (marked with three asterisks (***)) indicates a measurement distance of 5 m. A person whispering or breathing is around 10 dB(A). This represents the lower limit of hearing, i.e. the quietest noise the human ear can usually still hear.

The graphic shows how quiet an ESTIA heat pump is compared to other everyday sources of noise. With a noise level significantly below the usual volume of people talking, this graphic highlights the fact that the heat pump operates so quietly that it does not disturb any of the peace and calm at home.

The remarkable quietness of a heat pump

An ESTIA heat pump is quiet – as shown by the sound pressure level, which describes the volume that we perceive. At a distance of just a few meters, an ESTIA outdoor unit barely reaches 30 dB(A). This is equivalent to a person whispering or the sound level inside a library – much to the delight of neighbors, municipal authorities, and the environment.
