Modern air conditioning systems work in the same way as a heat pump. In simple terms, heat is transported from the outside inwards via a refrigerant – or vice versa. The main components of a split air conditioning system are the indoor and outdoor unit which are connected with one another by means of the refrigerant piping. The heat can now be routed in one direction or the other as required and therefore result in heating or cooling of the interior.
